Digital Fashion Week, Singapore Spring style trends for 2014

Though I’ll admit we’re hardly affected by seasonal change here in Singapore, the fashion seasons come and go as normal, with designers churning out anything from two to four or more collections per year to whet our sartorial appetites.

However, you needn’t look only to the catwalks of London, New York, Milan and Paris for style inspo. Singapore is fast securing its spot as Asia’s dominant fashion capital, with even top international designers standing up and taking note.

In the last year alone, haute guests to the little red dot have included Karl Lagerfeld – who featured his Chanel Cruise ’13-14 collection at Dempsey Hill last May – as well as Carolina Herrera and designer Peter Pilotto, both who featured collections at Audi Fashion Week 2013.

So, this season, I’m looking to the Spring collections showcased at Singapore’s most recent fashion extravaganza for inspiration (and you should too – support local!) Check out the gallery below for a round-up of fabulous fashion from local Asian designers showcased at Digital Fashion Week

PRINTED BRIGHTS

As seen at: L’ile Aux Ashby

Known for their edgy and experimental designs, local label L’ile Aux Ashby sent a variety of mirrored prints down the runway in bright block colours for their Spring/Summer ’14 collection, entitled ‘Till Genesis Comes’ – a range created as a celebration of the vitality in life and nature.

Imagery of vibrant blooms are coupled together with exotic representations of landscapes and animals including, parrots, owls and butterflies – all mashed together into creative other-worldly prints.

Bright, block colours and the sleek silhouettes of the clothing emphasise the bold prints on the body. The print-heavy collection comes as no surprise considering the designer, Rayson Tan, originally began his career as a graphic designer.

OVERSIZED FLORALS

As seen at: Thomas Wee

Blown-up floral prints were the foundation of well-known Singapore fashion designer Thomas Wee’s elegant S/S’14 ‘resort’ collection, carried by structured one and two piece outfits which showcased his remarkable knack for tailoring – perfect cinched in waists and flowing skirts do full justice to a feminine silhouette.

FLOWING AND DRAPED FABRICS

As seen at: In Good Company

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t just me mentally noting down look after look for purchase at In Good Company’s ready-to-wear S/S’14 show. Designers Sven Tan and Kane Tan have created beautiful, fluid and feminine looks showcasing their incredible tailoring and draping skills.

Voyeurs were utterly spoilt for choice as the label sent piece after piece of wearable, flattering and super comfortable-looking clothing down the runway in a neutral colour palette from their latest capsule collection. Favourite pieces include a flowing black strappy dress (pictured) and an ivory one-shoulder evening dress. Simple. Stunning.

COLOUR BLOCKING

As seen at: Pauline Ning

This designer first made their catwalk debut at Digital Fashion Week 2012 on androgenous model Andrej Pejic. For S/S’14, their combination of refined and artfully draped dresses in block colour palettes conveyed a luxe, sporty aesthetic – perfect for daily wear or a to pull off a relaxed evening look.
